Permits & Forms

Permits are generally required for new structures, moving in existing structures, certain land alterations, the addition of bedrooms to an existing residence, signs, sewer systems, feedlots, essential services, certain fences and other structures or improvements.
If you are unsure if your project needs to be permitted, contact the Zoning Administrator or submit an application and that determination will be made.

Land Use Permit - Agricultural Zoning District

Land Use Permit - Shoreland Zoning District

(Shoreland is anything within 1,000 feet of a DNR-protected lake, pond or flowage and 300 feet from a DNR-protected river or stream or the landward extent of a designated flood plain, whichever is greater)

Special Use Application

(For rip rap, boat ramp and other shoreland alterations)

Variance Application

(To apply for an exception from a required setback, lot coverage limit or other zoning regulation)

Conditional Use Permit

(For uses listed as needing a conditional use permit in the Land Use Ordinance)

Land Split Application

Statement of Authorization

(For when the applicant is not the landowner)

Septic System Application

(Please submit applications to Traverse County SWCD)

Septic system ordinance administration is provided by the Traverse County Soil & Water Conservation District.

Feedlot Permit

Delegated County Feedlot administration is provided by the Traverse County Soil & Water Conservation District

Wetland Conservation Act

Wetland Conservation Act administration is provided by the Traverse County Soil & Water Conservation District

Local Water Planning

Comprehensive Local Water Plan administration is provided by the Traverse County Soil & Water Conservation District

Permit applications can be dropped off at the
Traverse County Recorder’s Office
unless otherwise noted above.

You will need to submit your permit fee before the permit can be issued.
